Does my love for God outweigh my sin?

Ok I know “all have seen and fallen short of the glory of God” (Rom 3:23).

However, everyone that is born of God has overcome the world (1John 5:4). Often we settle for familiarity (sin) rather than to pursue the unknown (righteousness). Living a righteous life is uncommon and often thought unable to live. We are righteous only because of the blood of Jesus, but we are able to live uprightly because we love God enough to follow His commands.

If we really love God our life will display it through obedience. By observation of one’s life you can tell their level of obedience. Obedience can be broken down into three interpretations:

  1. Immediately do what is commanded
  2. Obey only when the command allows you to be seen in front of others
  3. Wait to do what is commanded when ready (delayed obedience)

We have all obeyed in the above obedience interpretations to God. Our level of obedience directly correlates with our love and trust in God. We often don’t obey because we don’t trust God enough. Sometimes we hear God but don’t obey because we love the opinions of others more. So do you really love God enough not to consciously sin?

Remember love is developed over time! So if you have just begun your relationship with God it will take time to totally turn away from some sins. PLEASE NOTE: It is possible to overcome those sins!

Scripture: “This is love for God: to obey His commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” (1 John 5:3-5 NIV)

What do you love more?
